Kalimba "finger piano" instruments have a rich history in Kenya. This percussion instrument features nine keys constructed from recycled metal and discarded wood. "Keys" are discarded tin with colorful loops of tin that reverberate as the instrument is played. Music was initially played to honor people or played at ceremonies. More recently, popular music has surfaced using the Kalimba piano.
This ornament celebrates the Kalimba piano and does make music. The miniature version comes with a loop for hanging on the tree. This makes a unique ornament on the Christmas tree.
